Eric Clapton's guitar auctioned for $45K to help well-known Texas musician Johnny Nicholas

Eric Clapton's guitar has been auctioned for $45K and the proceeds made from the sale will be used to pay the medical bills of the well-known Texas musician, Johnny Nicholas, whose wife recently died of leukemia. The remainder of the amount will be used to support Leukemia research.

Heritage Auctions in Dallas on Saturday said in a statement the highest bid for the 2014 Fender Stratocaster electric guitar came in by telephone. Heritage spokesman Eric Bradley said the bidder requested anonymity, while also revealing that the bid was more than twice the expected amount.

The guitar that was sold at the auction was one of two that the British singer-songwriter played last year at his "Slowhand at 70" concert at London's Royal Albert Hall.
