Eric Anderson, Tracy Anderson‘s ex-husband and the former NBA player who played for New York Knicks, has died at the age of 48.

As for the former Indiana University basketball star's cause of death, according to a preliminary autopsy, he died of natural causes on Sunday, December 9.

Hamilton County Coroner John Chalfin told The Indianapolis Star, "It’s cardiac-related, but natural causes until doc can confirm that in a report to me".

A representative for Tracy’s company said in a statement to PEOPLE,

We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Eric Anderson. Eric was a true friend to Tracy, a loving and incredibly dedicated father to their son Sam, and always willing to lend a helping hand to many of us at Tracy Anderson throughout the years.

The statement added, "Our hearts are grieving with Tracy and her family during this difficult time".

When Eric’s sister didn't hear anything from him for days, she alerted the Carmel Police Department of Indiana.

Carmel Lt. Joe Bickel told the Indy Star, "His sister hadn’t heard from him in a couple days, which she thought was odd because he was fighting some type of illness."

When officers went to his apartment, they found him dead.

Tracy, 43, and Eric became married in 1998 and got a divorce in 2008. The former couple shared one child, son Sam, 20, together.

Rest In Peace Eric Anderson!
