The longtime E! host Sadler ended her career in the Network describing that she was paid less than a half of what her counterpart Jason Kennedy was paid. But, Frances Berwick, president of NBCU Cable Entertainment’s lifestyle networks (which include E!) revealed that there was a reason why they had a huge gap in pay scale. He also confirmed that it was not because of gender.
Catt Sadler and Jason Kennedy had different roles and therefore different salaries. Catt was focused on daytime. Jason Kennedy is on the primetime evening news, plus red carpet. Our employees’ salaries are based on their roles and their expertise, regardless of gender. We wish Catt well, but I hope that sets the record straight on that.
Catt hosted the daytime show while Jason handled Primetime Evening news and red carpet. Sadler left the network after 12 years. Following her departure, many actresses including Jennifer Lawrence, Debra Messing supported the former host and spoke in favor of her in the Golden Globes Awards.
I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female cohost the same as their male cohost,” Messing said during E!’s Golden Globes red carpet coverage on Sunday. “I miss Catt Sadler. So we stand with her. And that’s something that can change tomorrow. We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.
