Darlene Blount, Meghan Markle‘s future sister-in-law, has been arrested on suspicion of assault for the second time this year on Friday, July 20, multiple sources have confirmed.
According to Daily Mail, the 37-year-old, who is the fiancée Thomas Markle Jr. (the royal’s half-brother), was charged with assault in the fourth degree.
The outlet reports that police were called to Duchess of Sussex and Darlene’s home in Grants Pass, Oregon, on a domestic violence call.
Darlene was taken to Josephine County Jail overnight before she was released on bail on Saturday, July 21.
Previously on New Year's Day, police were called to the home, after Thomas, 51, got involved in a drunken brawl with his fiancée. At the time, Darlene landed in jail on another charge of fourth-degree assault.
Initially, it was claimed that Darlene hit him in the face after which Thomas paid her $1,000 bond, insisting that his injuries were self-inflicted.
Shortly after the incident, in an interview with Daily Mail on Sunday, Thomas blamed his half-sister’s engagement to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex for contributing to the fight.
He told the newspaper,
It hasn’t been easy. Meghan’s relationship with Prince Harry has shone a spotlight on our family. It doesn’t help when you have issues and your sister is engaged to royalty. It adds a whole new level of scrutiny. We’ve been under a lot of stress because of all the attention. At some point you find yourself drinking too much to escape the pressure.
At the time, Thomas said that both he and Darlene were planning to seek alcohol and relationship counseling. The couple didn't attend the former Suits star’s May wedding to the British royal in London.
