The couple kept apart by the woman's strict father finally married almost 40 years later - the man asked her out on a date in 1978.
Bill Brookman, 23, asked Madeleine Coburn, 16, on a date after he got to know Madeleine from the play which he directed back in 1978. She said 'yes' but had to cancel the plan for her father thought Bill was 'too arty' and wouldn't even let her met him again.

The couple - who finally tied the knot in August 2017, were telling their story to The Listening Project, which was published on October 25.
I was disappointed, but that's just the way life is,
said Bill, who even had no idea why she canceled their date.
Madeleine - a arts specialist never got married, while performer Bill had two sons with a previous wife.
The now-married couple - met again in 2008 during a school project in Leicester, in which they both have collaborated. Bill then asked her to go on a date for the second time.
The fact we didn't go out together when we were younger meant that we've both lived very rich lives. Then we found each other again, and it was a special thing that happened to us, so I think we're very lucky.
Bill proposed Madeleine while their conversation was being recorded by BBC Radio 4, but she didn't have an answer at that time.

Four years to 2008 incident, Bill again asked her out again. After they became a couple, Bill took her to the same pub he originally planned to go on their date decades ago.
