Comedian Volodymyr Zelensky is now the President of Ukraine

Ukraine's famous comedian Volodymyr Zelensky was victorious in the country's presidential election and now will head the country as its President.

With almost all the ballots counted, Volodymyr Zelensky took more than 73% of the votes while his competition former President Petro Poroshenko trailed behind with just 24%.

Mr. Zelensky addressed his celebrating supporters, saying,

I will never let you down, 

Mr. Poroshenko, admitted defeat after the first polls were published, but assured that he won't be leaving politics.

New political leader Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky, 41, is best known for playing the lead in a comedy television series Servant of the People.

In the TV sitcom, Zelensky's character accidentally becomes the President of Ukraine.

He informed reporters that he would reboot peace talks with Russian-backed separatists fighting Ukrainian forces in the east.

He said,

I think that we will have personnel changes. In any case, we will continue in the direction of the Minsk [peace] talks and head towards concluding a ceasefire,

Petro Poroshenko, who has been in power since 2014, said the result of the election,

leaves us with uncertainty [and] unpredictability.

He further added,

I will leave office but I want to firmly stress - I will not quit politics,
