Comedian Makes Middle East Joke: A Florida Man Calls 911

An audience member called 911 after comedian Ahmed Ahmed made a joke about Middle East at the Off The Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Florida.

The comic actor, 48, who is of Egyptian descent, made a joke about Islamic terrorism on Saturday, May 11, which prompted someone in the crowd of the standup comedy show to call 911.

In a video clip posted on the show's Facebook page, Ahmen can be heard saying,

Clap if you're from the Middle East. All right. We got a handful of us in in here, nice. But, hey, it only takes one of us ... to tell a joke.

The wisecrack prompted the Collier County Sheriff's Department to be called by one audience of the show to report Ahmed.

The caller claimed that Ahmed also asked how many Muslims were in attendance and joked about starting a terrorist cell.

I mean it really bothered me. And I yelled out, `And the paddy wagon is going to be outside to get all of you.'

He was concerned the comedian would again make the joke in a later performance.

Ahmed told WBBH-TV in Fort Meyers,

I don't know if it's fear, racism, ignorance, or Islamophobia, or whatever you want to call it. It's unfortunate that somebody was very adamant about making a point to make a 911 call.

Club owner Brian Spina was surprised by the call as Ahmed was.
