Charlie Benante first appeared in a live show at the age of 15. At that time, he joined the band, Cover, which has four performances per evening. Later in 1983, he became the drummer at a band, Anthrax. The other founders of this band were guitarist Scott Ian, Bassist Dan Lilker, Dan Spitz, and Joey Belladonna.
During his tenure at band, Anthrax, Charlie recorded numerous albums, including Among the Living, the State of Euphoria, Persistence of Time and Sound of White Noise. These all were certified gold by RIAA. He is also famous for having a rapid double-bass technique and is one of the pioneers of using Blast Beats in thrash metal, in addition to possessing an excellent rebound technique.
Apart from his musical career, Charlie is well-known as a graphic artist, who has made a numerous of covers of his bands’ albums and T-shirt designs.

Benante involved in a domestic dispute with his wife in front of his daughter, which led both of them to be arrested in summer 2012. Later, he missed the tour of his band Anthrax in UK and Europe due to some personal reasons. Next year, it was announced that Benante wouldn't take part in Australian tour.
