Jim Harbaugh has successful to place his name in the history of college football. But according to rankings released Wednesday by CBS Sports, the University of Michigan Wolverines coach is not among the sport’s top 15 coaches.
on CBS Sports’ list of the top 25 Power 5 coaches in college football, Jim was ranked 18th. He was No. 5 in the same rankings ahead of the 2017 season.
Michigan is coming off a disappointing 8-5 season, and some Wolverines fans view 2018 as a make-or-break campaign for Jim.
Jim, who is a Former Michigan quarterback, is 28-11 in three seasons with the Wolverines but is 1-5 against Ohio State and Michigan State.
CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli has explained Jim’s drop in the rankings:
I can’t help but believe that Harbaugh fatigue plays something of a role here, considering all the attention he receives and the lack of significant results thus far. He’s 28-11 at Michigan, but 0-3 against Ohio State.
Urban Meyer, who was Jim's biggest coaching rival, was ranked right near the top of the list. The Ohio State coach was No. 2, behind Alabama’s Nick Saban and ahead of Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.
Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio (No. 16) and Pennsylvania State University’s James Franklin (No. 10) are the other Big Ten coaches ranked ahead of Jim.
