A doctor, who performed CPR on a female victim of a Southern California synagogue shooting, was unaware that the woman who he was trying to save was his wife.

The woman was dead and when the doctor realized that she was his wife, he fainted.

Lori Gilbert-Kaye, 60, passed away because of the injuries she sustained in the attack at Chabad of Poway in San Diego. Three others - one girl and two men - were wounded during the tragic incident.

As per the report, Lori threw herself in front of Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein in order to save his life. Rabbi suffered a gunshot wound to his hand and got injured.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune reports, the dead woman's husband, who is a physician, was in the synagogue when the gunman opened fire.

Worshippers called him to help victims and when he began to do CPR on one, he realized she was his wife. He then fainted.

As per the report, Lori was at the synagogue to offer the Jewish prayer for the dead (known as the "Kaddish") for her mom, who recently died.

The suspect, John Earnest, 19, was arrested following the shooting.
