A leading #MeToo supporter and California Democratic Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia has been accused of sexual harassment by a man.
Daniel Fierro, the man who has accused Garcia of the misconduct, has told the press that back in 2014, when he was 25 years old, Garcia “stroked his back, squeezed his buttocks and attempted to touch his crotch,” after a legislative softball match.

Fierro has also said that while he initially stayed silent about the incident, he finally disclosed it in January to Democratic Assemblyman and current majority leader Ian Calderon, his former boss. Calderon then reported the incident to other leaders in the Assembly.
Garcia is now being investigated by the Assembly.
Fierro has accused Garcia of being an imposter, supporting the #MeToo movement on the one hand while having a history of sexual abuse. The movement has gained much traction since the cases of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey came out.
He told the AP,
"If the person leading the charge on it isn't credible it just ends up hurting the credibility of these very real stories."
Since being elected in 2012, Garcia has presented herself as a champion of issues regarding women and poor people. She also heads the Women's Caucus in the state Assembly.
