Born in Stockholm, Sweden

Bjorn Borg was from the upper class Swedish family born as Björn Rune Borg in Stockholm, Sweden to Rune Borg and Margaretha Borg. His father was also the famous athlete and he was once the champion of local table-tennis tournament.

1972

Represented Sweden in the 1972 Davis Cup

After he showed the characteristics of assiduous nature, great athleticism and endurance, he got chance to represented Sweden in the 1972 Davis Cup. Some characteristics of his plays were heavy topspin on both his forehand and two-handed backhand. 

1973

Began his professional career

His athletic style and his nature of play was well appreciated and he got chance to make his professional career at the age of 17. He nearly won his debut French Open, he reached the fourth round but the sad news is he was defeated in that round.

Won first French Open

With the beginning of his career, he won several major trophies. His first trophy after his professional career was Italian Open and his first major trophy was 1974 French Open. He won it against Manuel Orantes winning last four sets on best-of-five sets.

1976

Won 1976 Wimbledon Championships – Men's Singles

At the end of his professional career it totaled 11 Grand Slam singles titles and what is interesting about this statistics is that he became Wimbledon Champions for the five consecutive starting from 1976. His first claimed this trophy in 1976 winning the final against Ilie Nstase. 

1979

Won 1979 Colgate-Palmolive Masters

In 1976, he defeated US Open defending champion Manuel Orantes in the quarterfinal but was not able to win this trophy after he lost three final sets against Jimmy Connors. Though he has not been able to win the US Open, he has won 1979 Colgate-Palmolive Masters.
