Bibi Andersson, the renowned Swedish actress best known for starring in more than a dozen of Ingmar Bergman films, has died at the age of 83.
Her death was confirmed by her longtime director friend, Christina Olofson, to the Swedish media on Sunday, April 14.
The cause of death of the actress is not clear yet, however, she reportedly was previously hospitalized in France after suffering a stroke in 2009.
Andersson was generally cast in more innocent parts, such as The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries.
She rose to fame after appearing in Persona (1966) for which she won best actress award at the 4th Guldbagge Awards.
Andersson received the silver bear for best actress at the Berlin Film Festival in 1963 for her work The Mistress.
In 1968, she was nominated for the best foreign actress at the BAFTA Awards for her appearances in both Persona and Syskonbädd 1782.
Andersson was in a romantic relationship with Bergmann. But she was also married for three times in her life; Kjell Grede (1960-1973); Per Ahlmark (1979-1981); and Gabriel Mora Baeza (2004).
She is survived by her husband, Gabriel, and their one child.
