Barkha was born to S.P Dutt, was an Air India officer and Prabha Dutt, who served as a journalist for the Hindustan Times. After the death of her father, she was inspired by her mother which led her to pursue a career in Journalism. She holds Indian Nationality and belongs to Asian Ethnicity.
Dutt graduated from St. Stephen’s College with the degree in English literature, Master’s in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia Mass Communication Research Center and obtained her Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Barkha started her career at NDTV covering the Kargil war with an exclusive interview of Captain Vikram Bata and also covered Pakistan, Kashmir, Iraq and Afghanistan war. She had also classified attackers and victims of Gujrat violence and also covered Oberoi Trident & Taj Mahal Hotel attack. Her act pulled her into controversy for putting victim’s lives at risk by broadcasting live at the time.
Dutt earned huge recognition and awards during her career which includes the Padma Shri Award, ITA Award for Best Anchor Thrice, Best TV New Anchor, TV Personality of the year and much more.
Moving towards her personal life, Barkha married twice and con-incidentally, both of her husbands are Kashmiri Muslims. She was first married to Mr. Mir There and later with Haseeb Drabu, who is current Finance Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in the PDP-BJP Government headed by Mufti Mohammed Saeed.
Dutt earns the tremendous amount of money during her Journalism and anchor career. The big chunk of her Net worth has been estimated as R.s. 10 crores. She is current age of 46 and working as the group editor at the NDTV Network.
