Barcelona's dream scuppered as Atletico Madrid come out victorious

Almost every football geek heaped praise on Atletico Madrid's performance and Diego Simeone's tactics and intelligence on the night when the reigning champions were so easily beaten by the 'Madrid's 2nd team'.

It was Griezmann whose two goals proved decisive as Barca couldn't dominate even with the deadliest trio in the world consisting of NeymarSuarez, and the little genius- Lionel Messi amid their poor defending.

Some argued that Barca were unfortunate to have the penalty denied when Gabi handled just inside the area while others including Barcelona manager Luis Enrique believed that Atletico rightfully deserved the semifinal berth for their sheer determination and discipline. He said in the post-match conference,'It (the treble) was one of the targets for this season and the players are sad. We played poor and have no one to blame but ourselves.'

Griezmann's header on 36th and penalty on 88th minute were enough as Messi's team's lead by 2 goals to 1 in the first leg eventually proved to be futile. Along with Atletico, their cross-town rival Real MadridManchester city, and Bayern Munich will vie for the coveted trophy come 28th May at the San Siro stadium in Milan.
