Barbara boxer, then a Marin County supervisor, was chosen to the United States House of Representatives in 1982, she succeeded John Burton to get that position. She represented California's 6th congressional district in the house for the five consecutive times.

Implicated in the House banking scandal

Barbara Boxer was once implicated in the House banking scandal in 1992. The scandal revealed that more than 450 congressional representatives and aides including herself had written overdraft checks covered by overdraft protection by the House Bank.

Became U.S. Senator

Barbara won the U.S. senate election in 1992 and became U.S. senator for the first time succeeding Democratic senator Alan Cranston who retired in the same year. After that, she won the senator election for 3 more times consecutively.

Established the Excellence in Education Award

Coming to the year 1997, Barbara founded the Excellence in Education Award to recognize teachers, parents, businesses and organizations working for positive impact in education. Since the establishment of the award, she has presented the award to 38 recipients.
