Atal Bihari Vajpayee, three-time Prime Minister of India and the country's most respected politicians, has died on August 16 at 5:05 PM. He was 93.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) confirmed the death of the former prime minister. There he was being treated by doctors team for nine weeks.
The statement by AIIMS read, "Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems. Despite the best of efforts, we have lost him today".
The center announced seven days mourning throughout India. State funeral for Vajpayee took place yesterday at around 4 pm at Smriti Sthal on the banks of the Yamuna in Delhi.
State governments including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Panjab, Bihar and Uttarakhand announced a holiday on Friday as a mark of respect to the late politician.
The BJP's tallest leader was admitted to hospital a urinary tract infection and chest congestion on June 11.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the hospital twice in a day and top politicians from across political parties also arrived as Vajpayee's health worsened on Wednesday.
