At least 30 people died after a large truck slammed into a crowd gathered on a highway in western Guatemala on Wednesday night, March 27. The accident left bodies scattered on the roadway.
According to a local fire department spokesman, Cecilio Chacaj, people had apparently gathered on the dark highway in order to inspect a person who was killed in a separate accident when the truck plowed into them.

Chacaj said that the tragic incident took place near the municipality of Nahula in Solola province. He said, "It seems that the semi-trailer did not notice the number of the people on the roadway and ran them over."
He added, "So far there are at least 30 bodies at the site."
A video posted on social media sites shows the dead bodies strewn on the highway as people cry and shout for help.
President Jimmy Morales posted a tweet and shared his condolences over the accident. Morales said his government would coordinate aid to the victims' families.
