Ashley Westwood began his career as a trainee at Manchester United, where he played for a year as a defender. Further, he signed to Crewe Alexandra, again as the defender, where he appeared in 96 games and scored nine goals.
After playing three years for Crewe Alexandra, he signed to Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday, Northampton Town and then with Chester City respectively.
