Arizona Man, Epigmenio Gonzalez, 51, Dies After Being Attacked By Bees

A man, namely Epigmenio Gonzalez, 51, died after being attacked by a swarm of bees at his home in Yuma, Arizona on Sunday, April 7, authorities have confirmed.

The incident happened at approx. 6:30 p.m. Authorities received a call about a man being stung by multiple bees, according to a Yuma County Sheriff's Office's Facebook post.

The man was trying to remove a beehive from a couch in his backyard when the bees "became agitated" and attacked him.

The sheriff’s office said, "The victim then ran to his front yard where he was located by Deputies and Rural Metro covered with bees." 

Officials sprayed the victim with water to scatter the bees and then they removed him from the scene.

He was rushed to Yuma Regional Medical Center but he was later pronounced dead.

A woman, who was at the home, also got multiple stings. She was transported to the hospital, however, the condition of the woman has not been released by the officials yet.

According to the sheriff's office, in addition to the man and woman, Rural Metro personnel and several deputies were also stung by the bees. However, none of them required medical treatments.
