Miller learned dancing under her mother's supervision who was a dance teacher. She later became certified in 1986 as a member by Dance Masters of Pennsylvania Chapter #10.
Her membership was later terminated in the year 2012 when the members of the organization said that Miller's reality show Dance Moms was a demerit to the dancing profession and was against the interest of the other dance teachers who followed it as a passion.

Abby made her debut in 2011 when she started to appear for the reality TV show Dance Moms which was premiered in Lifetime. The show also featured other stars like Cheryl Burke.

Miller's parents owned the Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio, which she later inherited in 1995 and named it Reign Dance Productions. In 2015, Miller opened up her new studio named Abby Lee Dance Company in Los Angeles.
