Alex started to play piano at a young age of four. He along with his family moved to Florida when he was just 9-year-old. There he entered at "Southwood Middle School, which is famous for the fine arts program. Later, he entered the "Berklee College of Music," where he studied Jazz, Arranging and Film Scoring and graduated in 1995 with highest GPA in the class, 3.97.
Alex worked as a music director during 2001 original cast recording; he served as an orchestrator for 2005 original cast recording, Godspell; Stephen Schwartz’s Captain Louie. Alex Lacamoire won Drama Desk Award in 2007 for "Outstanding Orchestrations."
Similarly, he won Tony Award for Best Orchestrations and also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album for his work on ‘In The Heights’ on 2009. He has collaborated three times with Lin-Manual. The pair worked together on In the heights as well as Bring it on. They were also co-arrangers of the score for Hamilton.
Lacamoire is married to his wife, Ileana Ferreras. The couple met at Birdland in 2008 in the New York club. Both of them went then to see a cabaret act with their mutual friend, Henry Gainza, who is also an actor.
Very soon on their first meet, the couple felt special to each other. However, the first to make a move was Miss Ferreras. With the help of some friends, she linked up to him on Facebook and began talking to him online, until they went on their first date and Ferreras became Lacamoire’s girlfriend.
Ms. Ferreras works in New York as a professional life coach. Her mother is Elisa Ferreras and her father; Victor M Ferreras is no more. She graduated from Lehman College.
After dating for three years, the couple finally got married on Monday evening in 2011. Their marriage held in Battery Gardens, one of the restaurants in New York. Only their nearest family members were invited to attend their wedding. Although the couple is together for over a decade, they yet to have children.
