Bolling was at a time a baseball player and was drafted by Pittsburgh Pirates in 1984. His dream to play professional baseball was cut short due to a torn rotator cuff injury.

For his BA degree, Bolling had majored in Economics and as his baseball career was cut short, he looked to invest his knowledge to a good use and became a commodities trader on the New York Mercantile Exchange where he became a strategic adviser to the board of directors. Bolling was involved in the development of CNBC's Fast Money as well.

Bolling joined Fox Business Network in 2007 leaving CNBC and worked as one of the network's financial analysts. He was the host of the business show Happy Hour which competed with Fast Money as both of them aired during the same time slot. Bolling later served as the co-host of The Five on the Fox News Channel.

On April 19, 2017, Bolling no longer hosted The Five on the Fox News Channel and instead began hosting Fox News Specialists. The new show aired at 5 p.m which was the original air time of The Five. The Five is currently being hosted by Jesse Watters, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino and Juan Williams 

Bolling did not host the news show for long as he was reported to have sent unsolicited lewd photographs and text messages to three female colleagues several years previously which came to surface on 5 August 2017. Fox launched an independent investigation to get into the heart of the matter. The following month Fox Channel mutually agreed to part ways with Bolling.

Aside from his work in the Fox News Channel, Bolling is also an author who has released two books. His first book was called Wake Up America and was published in 2016 while his second book was The Swamp: Washington's Murky Pool of Corruption and Cronyism and How Trump Can Drain It which was published in 2017.
