Rubin’s father was a rock vocalist and frontman of the band The Smash Band, and currently a radio personality popular as “Smash” to St. Louis radio audiences. His paternal grandfather was from a Greek Jewish family while his paternal grandmother was from a Greek Orthodox Christian family.
