A New Jersey man, 81, who was wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat cap, was allegedly assaulted on Monday, February 25, for his support of President Donald Trump, officials said.

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, the Franklin Township native victim, whose name has not been identified, was at a supermarket at approx. 3:30 p.m. when he was attacked.

The man was "confronted" about the MAGA hat which became famous during Trump's presidential campaign. He suffered minor injuries during the incident.

The attack comes less than two weeks after a 23-year-old wearing the signature cap was allegedly assaulted by a woman at a Mexican restaurant in Cape Cod.

The woman was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the time.

Moreover, earlier this month, an employee of a Vans shoe store was fired for cursing at a young customer for wearing the iconic red hat at a store in Kansas.

Local authorities have been investigating the alleged attack.
