A Missouri man, namely Samuel Lee Scott, 54, was arrested on Tuesday, April 16, and charged with murder for killing his wife, Marcia Johnson, also 54.

He was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife just hours after he was released from jail; he was initially taken into custody on a domestic abuse case involving Johnson.

Prosecutors said that a nonprofit group posted his bail in a domestic violence case.

Scott was initially in jail for a misdemeanor domestic assault charge after he hit his wife in the face in January and threatened to "finish what (he) started."

According to the court documents obtained by The Associated Press, the St. Louis Bail Project posted his $5,000 bail on April 9.

Later that same night, the suspect reportedly went to his wife's home at around 7:45 p.m.

Several hours later, a friend found Johnson's head and body bloodied after which she was rushed to a nearby hospital.

She was reportedly "unconscious, had a broken eye socket, several broken ribs, and was bruised from head to toe."

Johnson died on Sunday, five days after her husband was released. Scott previously had convictions related to drug and assault.
