Four Indian soldiers were killed and wounded one another in a gunbattle with Kashmir rebels, officials have confirmed. Two terrorists were also reported to be dead in the counter-terror operation.
According to security officials, the fighting erupted after government forces surrounded a village in Pulwama where militants were hiding. The heavy gunfire took place as troops began conducting searches.

The gunbattle comes days after a Pakistani terrorist drove a car with a bomb in it and crashed into a bus carrying Indian army, leaving 40 of them killed.
The tragic incident becomes the deadliest attacks on soldiers in the country in two decades.
Blaming the attack on Pakistan, India has promised a "jaw breaking response". Pakistan has warned India not to attack the nation without an investigation.
According to BBC reports, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), the Pakistan-based Islamist militant group, are responsible for the attack.
