Natalie Anne Merchant (born October 26, 1963) is an American singer, musician and songwriter. She was enrolled at the alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs in 1981 and left it to begin her solo career. She was born in Jamestown, New York, United States of America to Anthony and Ann Merchant. Her paternal grandfather, who played the accordion, mandolin and guitar, immigrated to the United States from Sicily. Her birth name was Natalie Anne Merchant.

Merchant is a married woman. In 2003, Merchant married Daniel de la Calle. They have one children together, a daughter named Lucia. However, in an interview in 2012, she made some hint that she is now divorced. She loves to gardening and painting. Some of her paintings can be seen at her official website. Now she is not involved in any kind of extra marital affairs and it is also believed that she don’t have any boyfriend.

Merchant began her singing career in 1981. She was lead singer and primary lyricist for 10,000 Maniacs, joining in its infancy during that time she was also a student at Jamestown Community College. They recorded their album Human Conflict Number Five and performed a corresponding Music video at The Hotel Franklin and at Group W Westinghouse studios in 1982. She sang lead vocals and also played the piano as well, for 10,000 Maniacs for seven studio albums. In 1993 she stated that she was leaving the group. It is expected that she is earning a huge salary; however, her real time net worth is unknown.
