Mark attended some high school in United States and he completed his high school graduation in 1970. Later on he joined Pierce College where he studied for about two years. Then he joined University of California with a major in communications. He graduated from there in 1974. While he was there he also played for the UCLA Bruins football as the starting quarterback for about two years. Initially he dreamed to begin his career in advertising or law but later he became fascinated in business as a merchandising director. Later on he found his interest in acting. During his early acting career, he appeared in the TV commercials of Kellogg's Product 19 cereal. He finally earned the role of The Candidate in an American sitcom spin-off, Ozzie's Girls in 1973. Two years later, he appeared in the TV series like Emergency!, Adam-12 and Police Woman. He made his feature film debut in 1978 by portraying the role of Billy Joe Meynert in the movie Comes a Horseman. Till date he has appeared in more than 50 movies and TV series. His breakthrough role as an actor came in 2003 after he began starring the role of SSA Leroy Jethro Gibbs in the TV series NCIS. For this role he earned the salary of $500,000 per episode.
