Katherine Heigl is an American fashion model, actress, and film producer. She was born in Washington, D.C., in Columbia Hospital, the United States. Her father Paul Heigl is a financial executive and accountant, and mother Nancy is a personal manager. She is the youngest girl in her family and has siblings, Meg, Jason, and Holt. During her childhood, Heigl lived in Virginia, and later in Denver. After that, she moved into a Victorian-style farmhouse in the town of New Canaan, Connecticut, at the age of five along with her family. She studied at George Washington University.

Katherine Heigl made her acting debut with the movie That Night in 1992. This movie is written and directed by Craig Bolotin and stars C. Thomas Howell and Juliette Lewis in the lead. Later in 1994, she appeared in the movie, My Father the Hero, a French- American comedy-drama which is directed by Steve Miner.

After a year, Heigl featured in the movie, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, an American action film set on board a train traveling through the Rocky Mountains from Denver to Los Angeles, Directed by Geoff Murphy.

Later, Heigl played the role of Izzie Stevens on the ABC Medical drama Grey's Anatomy from 2005 to 2010. For this role, she won the Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding supporting Actress. 

Her other popular films are  Knocked Up, The Ugly Truth, Killers, Life As We Know It, and  New Year's Eve. She also played the lead role in the television series State of Affairs from 2014 to 2015
