Joan Jett was born as an eldest child of her parents in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. At the age of nine, she moved to Rockville, Maryland with her parents. There she joined Randolph Junior High and Wheaton High School. She was interested in music since her childhood days; she was just 14 when she got her first guitar.
After she moved to West Covina, California, she became more active in music. To accomplish her musical dreams, she formed an American all-female rock band The Runaways in the early 1970s with Sandy West, Jackie Fox, Lita Ford, and Cherie Currie. There she served as a lead vocalist.
Their debut album The Runaways was released on 1st of July 1976. Next year, they released two albums titled Queens of Noise and Waitin' for the Night. This band got disbanded in 1979. After The Runaways got disbanded, she began pursuing her solo career in England and her debut solo album titled Bad Reputation was released on 17th of May 1980.
