Diane Sawyer was born on December 22, 1945, in Glasgow, Kentucky, the United States to parents, Jean W. and Erbon Powers "Tom" Sawyer. Her father was a judge who died in a car accident in 1969 at E. P.A park in Louisville known as "Tom" Sawyer State Park, which was made in his honor. She has a sibling named Linda Sawyer. She studied at Seneca High School and was also editor-in-chief for a school Newspaper "Arrow". She is a graduate of Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
