The oldest actor ever to win an Academy Award, Authur Christopher Orme Plummer, a.k.a. Christopher Plummer, is a Canadian best known for his portrayal of Hal Fields in 2010 film Beginners. It is considered one of his most notable works as through the role, he won his first Academy Award at the age of 82. 

Born on 13th December 1929, the 88-year-old has been active in the film industry since 1953, and his career has spanned more than six decades. And throughout these years, he has appeared in numerous hit films and has worked with other elite actors like Michelle WilliamsJulie AndrewsJames McAvoyHelen Mirren, and many others.

Plummer entered the film industry through theater. He made his debut on Broadway in Jan of 1953 in The Starcross Story. Through the years, he appeared in numerous plays on and off Broadway like Home is the Hero, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing and others.

And in 1953, he also made his debut on TV; he appeared in an episode of Broadway Television Theatre

It was not until 1958 that he stepped into the film industry portraying the role of a young writer in the film Stage Struck. Since 1958, the actor has appeared in at least 82 films.

However, after his debut on the big screen in 1958, he did not appear in any other film for the next six years. In 1964, he portrayed the role of Commodus in the movie The Fall of the Roman Empire and the following year, he appeared as, his breakthrough role, Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music.

The movie did not only win an Oscar Award but also owned the box office and became the top-grossing film of the time.

Even though the movie is one of his most notable works earning him worldwide recognition, he hates the movie and the experience he had while filming it. He mostly hated his character as he found it too sentimental and gooey. 

Over the years, he has appeared in some massive hits films like Battle of Britain, The Royal Hunt of the Sun, The Man Who Would Be King, The Return of Pink Panther, The Lake House and many others.

Hopping on to recent years, in 2017 alone, he appeared in 4 movies: Howard Lovecraft & the Undersea Kingdom, The Man Who Invented Christmas, The Star, and All the Money in the World, featuring other actors like Dan Stevens, Oprah WinfreyMark Hamill, Charlie Plummer, etc.

As of 2018, he is all set to appear in three movies out of which one has already been released. In the film Boundaries, he portrayed the role of Jack Jaconi and appears alongside Vera Farmiga. Likewise, he is also starring in Cliffs of Freedom, and The Last Full Measure and these films will be releasing later in 2018.
