He was famous for his role in The High Chaparral, Monkey on My Back, Massacre in the Black Forest and many more. Best known for his calm, reasonable voice and thick Pennsylvanian Dutch accent, Cameron Mitchell was born by the name Cameron McDowell Mitzell at the end of 1918. He was born in Dallastown, Pennsylvania, United States of America to Rev. Charles and Kathryn Mitzell.

On 17th of August 1940, Cameron Mitchell tied his married knot for the first time in his life. That day he got married to Camille Janclaire. Camille Janclaire was an actress. As a married couple, they had four children together. They got divorced on 3rd of May 1960.

On 9th of May 1973, Cameron got married to Margaret Brock Johnson Mozingo. They were married for about three years and this married life got annulled at the end of 1976. He was also married to Lissa Jacobs Gertz with whom he had three children. Besides these there was no any information about his extra affairs and girlfriend. While Cameron was young, he performed in the Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne's National Theater Company.  During the World War II, he served as the bombardier with the United States Army Air Forces. In the mid 1950s, he starred in the movies like The Tall Men, Love Me or Leave Me, Tension at Table Rock, All Mine to Give and so on.

When Cameron was aged 75, he died of lung cancer. He died on 7th of July 1994. His funeral was held at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California. His net worth was in millions during his death.
