She was born to father Robert George Lenz (a history teacher and therapist) and mother Cathie Malcolm Holt Shepard Lenz (a personnel manager and entrepreneur). Bethany Joy Lenz started singing at the age of 3 at The Carpenter’s Church situated in Lakeland, Florida, following her grandfather's footsteps.
